I just read your (Peter Gerstenberger’s) Outlook column, “Unplanned Events,” in the April 2022 issue of TCI Magazine, and totally agree with what you have said.
Years ago, Tim Walsh (CTSP, now director of corporate safety at The Davey Tree Expert Company) said something similar to what you wrote about, but we both changed it to something like this: “Plan the work, work the plan, but don’t be married to the work plan. Change it when necessary.”
I live by this saying daily and often repeat it to my crew. At least it gets them thinking about the job, and they are comfortable knowing they can alter it, if necessary.
