Vermeer’s new AX17 is designed as a compact and powerful brush chipper for high-production tree work. Fully configured, the single-axle machine weighs less than 10,000 pounds, minimizing the need for additional license requirements. Mechanized feeding is made effective with a wide feed-roller opening and durable, fixed infeed table. With more than 6,500 pounds of pull-in power, the AX17 uses Vermeer’s SmartCrush and SmartFeed control systems to maximize productivity and reduce the need for operator interaction when feeding difficult material. A patented winch boom with 3,200 pounds of pull-in force can be raised out of the way when mechanically feeding the machine. The AX17’s optional, full-function remote allows machine operation from a loader or a mini skid steer, which helps minimize crew size while maximizing productivity.
