Two city workers helped save a man’s life after seeing the man stumbling toward them carrying his own severed arm after a workplace accident January 21, 2022, in Lewiston, Maine.
The workers, who had been sanding sidewalks, applied a tourniquet to reduce the man’s bleeding, Mary Ann Brenchick, director of Lewiston Public Works, told Lewiston’s Sun Journal. Police said the tourniquet “probably saved his life.”
Both men are arborists trained to apply tourniquets. Medics took the man to a hospital.
Officers followed a trail of blood to a store, where witnesses reported the man lost his arm in a bandsaw mishap. Police told WGME CBS13 the man was expected to survive, according to a Bellingham (Washington) Herald report.
