Arborjet Inc., a 22-year TCIA corporate member company based in Woburn, Massachusetts, and its sister company, Ecologel Solutions LLC, are helping sponsor a fundraising initiative that involves climbing Uganda’s highest peak, Mount Stanley.
Dave Firman is a Certified Arborist and owner of Firman Irrigation and Tree Service. He is a former TCIA member company based in northern Michigan and will be doing the climbing. He is on a mission to raise funds for Lifewater International. This organization that believes “every child and family deserves access to safe water.” Lifewater provides water, sanitation and hygiene. They also partner with local ministries serving hard-to-reach places where families are most vulnerable to waterborne illnesses.
Firman, a longtime client of Arborjet, climbed Mount Aconcagua in the Andes range in Argentina last year, and Mount Kilimanjaro the year before. His significant fundraising initiatives have enabled the organization to build 10 safe wells to date. Firman’s goal is to reach a total of $100,000 in support of Lifewater’s overall efforts.
“This has been a really eye-opening experience! I’ve had experiences in South Africa and on other mission trips working in villages where people have to go for miles to get water, basically out of a mud puddle. We’ve built water filters for them and do whatever we can to help out,” says Firman. Local villagers also contribute and will have to maintain the wells. They receive training in sanitation, how to build latrines and ultimately to create healthy villages.
