Tim Walsh, a professional with experience in environmental, health, safety, and compliance in utility vegetation management has joined The Townsend Company, LLC, as its next vice president of safety and training, effective April 1.
With more than three decades of experience, Walsh brings an impressive portfolio of expertise to the position. He has built a presence across all phases of the industry, from his early days teaching climbing and rigging to leadership positions with The Asplundh Tree Expert Co., a 49-year TCIA-member company based in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania and The Davey Tree Expert Co., a 51-year TCIA-member company based in Kent, Ohio, where he recently served as its vice president of health and safety. At Davey, Walsh was responsible for safety oversight, governance, development, implementation, and evaluation of safety programs for more than 12,000 employees. He developed comprehensive safety and health programs for vegetation management in the oil, gas, electric, highway and railway industries.

Certifications as a Utility Safety Professional, Treecare Safety Professional, ISa Arborist and Tree Worker Climber Specialist reflect Walsh’s commitment to the highest standards in tree care and safety practices. He has been an active participant in industry-standard revisions, including serving as a voting member and task chair in several revisions of the ANSI Z133, and has been instrumental in advancing safety practices through his involvement with the National Occupational Research Agenda Safety Workgroup.
Walsh is actively engaged in several national organizations, including serving as past president and current member of the Utility Arborist Association; as a member of the Tree Care Industry Magazine Editorial Advisory Committee; and a member of the American Society of Safety Professionals. In 2022 he was awarded the prestigious Will Nutter Silver Shield Award For Safety by the Utility Arborist Association.
He has bachelor’s degrees in urban forestry and forest management from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, a master’s degree in urban forestry (UWSP) and ergonomics (University of Massachusetts, Lowell), and is a doctoral candidate in ergonomics and safety at UMASS-Lowell.
