Courant Koala Saddle a Lightweight Option for Climbers

When I first picked up the Courant Koala saddle, I was struck by its lightweight design and simple, sturdy construction. It’s easy to adjust and has a clean, streamlined feel – perfect for someone who doesn’t want to fuss with a bunch of straps and hardware.

The Koala might work really well for new climbers or those who might only climb occasionally. It’s a simple setup, which makes it less intimidating to dial in, and its lightweight build means you can pack it along without much effort. For someone dipping their toes into climbing, or needing a backup harness, the Koala would be a great way to go.

Because it’s minimal and straightforward, this saddle gives you a less cluttered climb. If you don’t need a full assortment of attachment points, you can keep your setup light, like a rock-climbing harness. Some climbers might really want that – stripping the climb down to essentials. Climbers who are used to minimalist gear or who don’t want to haul a full kit will likely feel at home in it.

For a new climber just starting out, or someone who wants a no-fuss, lightweight saddle to keep around, the Koala is worth considering. It might not check all the boxes for every arborist in every situation, but what saddle does? Think of it as a gateway saddle that is simple, perfect for light climbing days.

With just a few tweaks – like enhancing comfort in pressure points, adding the optional secondary bridge of another color and refining D-ring placement – the Koala could become an even more versatile option. For now, it might be best suited for beginners or recreational climbers who want simplicity and light weight over maximum features.
