An arborist was hit and killed by a falling tree on Tuesday in the West Portland area. The incident was originally reported as a cardiac event, but when an AMR medic arrived, they determined it had been a traumatic injury and alerted responding units of a potential need for a rope rescue system due to the steep, uneven terrain. Portland Fire subsequently said the person who died was a member of an arborist team working in the area to fell trees. The tree that hit and killed them was unrelated to the work they were doing, Portland Fire said. The name of the arborist hasn’t been released.
