Roger D. Mellick

Roger Mellick passed away peacefully June 15, 2025, in New Hope, Pennsylvania. Mellick led Doggett Corporation, a 32-year TCIA corporate member company based in Lebanon, New Jersey, from the early 1980s to 2020. Along with Albie Doggett they developed, blended and marketed a unique line of slow-release fertilizers for the tree care industry and beyond. It quickly became a staple to proper tree care in the industry.

Mellick made many friends in the tree care industry and was known for his casual but conspicuous display presence at trade shows, with his classic couch and apples that drew many curious customers to his exhibit. Along with his infectious smile, there was not much left to add to thoroughly enjoying a visit with him. He knew that people were the most important aspect of any business and enjoyed engaging in discussions of importance in the world and to those he met.

Also important in his life were the connections to nature and the outdoor world. He was engaged in his community by being a volunteer with and at one point head of the Raritan Headwaters Association, which had a mission of protecting one of the larger watersheds in New Jersey. He also was active with the Raptor Trust and the Clinton, New Jersey, Historical Society. He also is remembered as a board member with CASA, which provided advocates for foster children in the court system in three counties in New Jersey.

Roger leaves four beautiful daughters, Kreh, Storrs, Hartley and Annie, and their partners, whom he adored with all his heart, three granddaughters and his wonderful and supportive former wife, Shelby. He also leaves sisters Juliana and Helen, and brother, George Mellick, founder of Shelter Tree Care ProductsHe will be missed.

His family would like to request donations made in Roger’s memory to the Raritan Headwaters Association https://www.raritanheadwaters.org in Bedminster, N.J. Rest in peace, dear Roger.
