The ISA dedicated the updated version of its Best Management Practices – “Tree and Shrub Fertilization, Fourth Edition,” published in November 2020, to Dr. Richard Rathjens of The Davey Tree Expert Company.
Dr. Rathjens participated on the ANSI A300 Committee for 23 years, from 1996 to 2019, serving as an official member for the last 17 of those years.
According to the dedication, Rathjens was brought on to the committee when they started to formulate the first edition of ANSI A300 Part 2- Fertilization (1998) because of his extensive knowledge of tree and shrub fertilization materials and practices. “Since that time, he has been an active member of the ISA’s Fertilization and Soils Management BMP review committees. He has always provided great insight on these topics,” the dedication reads.
Rathjens started attending meetings as the alternate for Davey in 1996. At first, he was only brought in for Part 2. Davey gradually increased his participation over the years.
